Carbon Reduction Policy
Purpose
Halilit recognises that climate change presents a significant challenge globally. As a small UK-based business providing baby and pre-school toys and educational products, we are committed to minimising our environmental footprint and contributing to the transition to a low-carbon economy. This policy outlines our commitment to measuring, reducing and ultimately neutralising our carbon emissions in a transparent, achievable and practical way.
This policy covers emissions generated by our direct operations under our control (e.g., energy use in our offices/warehouses, business travel) as well as indirect emissions where material (e.g., shipping/distribution, transportation, commuting, office supplies).
Measures & Actions
We will implement, where feasible and cost-effective, a range of carbon-reduction measures including but not limited to:
· Upgrading to energy-efficient lighting, heating, and electrical equipment in our offices or warehouses.
· Where feasible, procuring electricity from renewable or low-carbon energy tariffs.
· Encouraging low-carbon travel for staff (e.g., public transport, cycling, walking, or combining trips) and reducing business travel via remote meetings, video calls, and better scheduling.
· Reducing packaging, minimising waste, and improving recycling and reuse practices — both in office operations and in our distribution/fulfilment processes.
· Moving towards more efficient logistics: optimising delivery routes, consolidating shipments, and working with partners who have lower-carbon transport and distribution solutions.
· Optimise inbound supply chain: consolidate shipments, prefer suppliers/partners with lower-carbon freight options.
· Optimise outbound deliveries to customers/retailers: use consolidated bulk deliveries instead of many small individual shipments, where feasible.
· Prefer lower-carbon transportation modes or low-emission courier/transport providers where possible.
· Adopting digital-first operations to minimise paper usage, encouraging electronic documentation, e-invoicing, and reducing print/courier reliance where possible.
· Reviewing our supply chain periodically and prioritising suppliers and manufacturers who themselves demonstrate environmental responsibility and lower-carbon practices.
Monitoring & Reporting
We will establish a baseline carbon footprint covering Scope 1, Scope 2 and relevant Scope 3 categories following recognised standards.
We will define meaningful metrics (e.g., emissions per product sold, or per £ of revenue) to track improvements over time.
A designated member of staff will be responsible for gathering data, overseeing actions, and reporting on progress.
Continuous Improvement & Review
We recognise that some measures may not be immediately achievable. Therefore, we commit to an ongoing process of review and improvement - exploring new technologies, efficiency gains, and opportunities for further carbon reductions as the business evolves.
